Paid Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR)
Independent representation under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
Everyone who has a standard Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard (DoLS) authorisation must have a representative to ensure any conditions are being met and that the person understands their rights. Where there is no unpaid person who can take on this role, the Local Authority appoints a Paid Relevant Person’s Representative from NWAAA. Our representatives are fully independent from the care home, hospital, Local Authority, and Supervisory Body — and the service is free to the person deprived of their liberty.
What the RPR does
- Visits the person deprived of their liberty on a regular basis
- Helps the person understand their DoLS authorisation and how it affects them
- Assists the person to exercise their rights
- Ensures conditions of the authorisation are met
- Requests a review of the authorisation when needed
- Challenges the authorisation through local means or the Court of Protection
